Welcome to winter in the high country! The Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory’s (RMBL) Forest Queen Hut in Gothic is made available to the public in winter for skiers and snowshoers to enjoy a backcountry experience. The elevation of Gothic Townsite is 9,500 feet.
The Nordic Center books reservations for the Forest Queen Hut. The hut, in the historic mining town of Gothic, is rustic and cozy with a fully equipped kitchen and beds to sleep up to 7 people.
The hut also has electricity, a stove, refrigerator cooking utensils, outdoor toilets, and chopped wood for the wood stove. There is no running water, but drinking water is available.
Bring food and bedding.
The hut is a 4 mile one way ski trip on moderate terrain. Depending on snow conditions, there are sections of potential avalanche hazard. Reservations are required, please call us for availability. Click here for a link to the liability waiver or fact sheet
Cost: Per person $15.60/night

When you arrive at the hut you will find:
- 5 gallons of water in a jug. (Additional water is available from the caretakers)
- A wood stove for heating with plenty of firewood and a hatchet. Please chop wood outside!
- A refrigerator and a stove
- Outhouse with toilet paper
- 5 beds and 2 cots for a 7 person maximum (Please bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping pad)
- Pots, pans, dishes, matches and lighters
Check in time is 2pm. Check out time is 10am.
