Wax Recommendations for 2012 Alley Loop

Everyone who’s serious about ski waxing has their opinion about what the magic formula is.  You can make it easy on yourself by letting the experts from the Junior Nordic Team wax them. Drop off your skis at the Center by 5 p.m. today. The Gold treatment is $65 and includes 3 layers of high fluoro wax.  The Silver treatment is $35 and includes 2 layers of low fluoro wax. All proceeds will benefit the Junior Nordic Team. Skis will be available for pick up tomorrow morning after 7:30.

If you want to wax them yourself, check out the waxing recommendations below.

Boulder Nordic Sport Alley Loop Recommendations:

Forecast Based Recommendation – BNS does not have anyone testing wax on-site.

Base Layer:  SkiGo LF Graphite

Race Paraffin:  SkiGo HF Green or LF Green, Start HF80 or Toko HF Blue.  Start SG8 Green could also be good.

Fluoro Powder: SkiGo C105 or Holmenkol Cold Powder

Topcoat:SkiGo C105 Solid or Holmenkol Speedblock Cold

Structure:Fine Grind such as S1.3/CV0 or S0.1/LS00

Kick: Iron in a base layer of Toko Green Base, cool, cork and then top with the wax of the day.  Possible options we would try:

  • Guru Green
  • SkiGo XC Green
  • Rode Green Special
  • Rode Green.

Conclusionary Notes – Toko HF Blue has historically run well in these conditions in Crested Butte.

Toko Alley Loop Recommendations:

Glidewax: Apply LF Blue, scrape & brush, then apply LF Blue & LF
Moly mixed 1:1, scrape & brush.  Apply HF Blue, sprinkle on Nordlite
Powder X-cold, iron in together, scrape & brush. Finish by
rotocorking in JetStream Blue, brush with a dedicated nylon
polishing brush and polish with a thermopad.
Gripwax: Roughen base with 150 grit sandpaper, iron in Nordic
Base Wax Green, cork smooth, let cool. Then apply 5-7 thin layers of
Nordic GripWax Blue alternated with Carbon GripWax Mint, corking
between layers. Final layer should be Mint.
Structure:  A fine linear structure covered by one pass with the
Blue Structurite tool (before JetStream application) will best suit
these conditions.
