Grand Traverse Recap and Thank YouTriathlon Again Next Year? Three stream crossings, twelve miles of running/walking, and “comically heinous” (Cam’s words) ski conditions were overcome by Grand Traverse racers on their trek from Crested Butte to Aspen this year. After last year’s cancellation, the green light from field teams was a huge relief for teams that had, in some cases, waited three years for their chance to make it to Aspen. While every Grand Traverse is a massive undertaking that requires dedicated help from both ends of the Elk Mountains, this year’s race was even more of a community effort in every sense. It would have been easy to dismiss the GT into another cancellation considering the weather leading up to the race, but people stuck with it, got creative, and brought all the pieces together. We can’t even begin to thank everyone who committed their time, effort, knowledge, and stoke into this year’s race. From field teams, to SAR members, to gear checkers, and registration volunteers, you all made it happen, and we are so grateful. We’ll see you next year for the 29th. Hopefully, with a little less wading.
