Yurt Dinners
Join us for an unforgettable dining experience.
Dining at the Magic Meadows Yurt is truly a magical experience. Ski or snowshoe with your party on our groomed nordic trails to arrive at the yurt nestled among the pines. Inside, a warm fire will greet you as you find your seats and make your way to the bar, which offers a selection of wine, beer, non-alcoholic options, and a specialty cocktail mixed with Montanya Rum, whose distillery is located right here in Crested Butte. Settle in for an intimate evening of incredible food and company, as parties may be seated together. Our menu is prepared by renowned private chef Tim Egelhoff, who will serve five courses throughout the evening, which includes four entrees that you can choose from at the time of ticket purchase. Our servers will ensure you have everything that you need until you bundle up to head back out onto the trails under a sky full of stars.

At the Yurt
The yurt is warmed by a wood burning stove that will invite you to shed your layers from skiing and change into some yurt slippers; a limited amount of slip on Croc-style shoes are available for use or bring your own!
You may recognize your servers if you were part of the guided experience, as our guides also double as servers for the evening. Our host and bartender will help you find your seats. With only 40 seats available, seating at the yurt is intimate and parties will likely be seated with another group or at a communal table.
Your chef will be Tim Egelhoff, who is one of the most highly regarded chefs in Crested Butte today. He has received critical acclaim for his signature Colorado Inspired Cuisine: a style that reintroduces classic European techniques using American artisanal products, local and organic produce, and is driven by the dramatic seasons.
At the end of the night, you will use your headlamps to ski or snowshoe back the way you came and will return your rented gear to our van; we will take care of the rest!
Getting There
The yurt can only be accessed by nordic skis or snowshoes via a one-mile-groomed trail from the Peanut Lake Trailhead. The route is on green/easy trails with a few rolling hills. It takes about 30-45 minutes for beginner skiers and snowshoers and 15-20 minutes for skiers with more experience. For each dinner, two guides will also lead a group from the Gronk trailhead at 5:20 for anyone who wishes to join.
Cancellation Policy
All cancellations will incur a $25/person cancellation fee.
Cancellations that occur more than 2 weeks prior to your reservation will receive a full refund, minus the $25/person cancellation fee.
Cancellations within 2 weeks of your reservation will only be refunded if we are able to rebook your seats, minus the $25/person cancellation fee.
Any cancellation within 24 hours cannot not be refunded.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A Yurt Dinner reservation includes nordic ski or snowshoe rental equipment, trail access, a guided ski or snowshoe to the yurt (optional), a 5-course meal, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, 15% gratuity and an optional shuttle between the Nordic Center and the trailhead (space is limited).
-
The trail to the yurt is one mile each way. The trail is rolling, so we recommend using snowshoes if you have never used nordic skis. Depending on which month you attend, the trail may be dark for one or both ways to and from the yurt, so a headlamp is recommended. -
It is best to dress in layers. Pay attention to the temperatures leading up to your dinner, as that may depict what you should wear. It is easy to overheat in a heavy insulated coat, so we recommend a wind/waterproof layer over a mid-layer, gloves, a hat, and a neck gaiter.
Snow pants are not necessary unless it is snowing heavily. Light wind pants or regular pants will work just fine.
Inside the yurt the temperature is comfortable enough that you won’t need to wear your coat and it usually becomes warm once the yurt is full.
We recommend bringing a small backpack for extra layers, water, and shoes or slippers for the yurt if desired.
-
The yurt can only be accessed by skiing or snowshoeing in on Crested Butte Nordic’s trail system. The remote location is part of what makes the experience so special! It is also only accessible in the winter as it is located in a conservation area and there are no trails to the yurt in the summer.
If you need ADA accommodations or transportation due to injury, please reach out to our Nordic Center & Yurt Manager: amanda@cbnordic.org.
-
While most of our guests are adults, kids are welcome to join with a few disclaimers:
Kids need to also be able to ski or snowshoe the one-mile trail to the yurt and back
The dinner is around a three-hour experience in an intimate setting, so we ask discretion to be sure your little skier is able to sit for that amount of time out of respect for other guests.
We do not have a kid’s menu, so they will receive the same 5-course meal as our adult guests at the same price.
-
Contact amanda@cbnordic.org as soon as possible. We do often keep a waitlist and are happy to offer your seats to the next group in line. We do not cancel yurt dinners due to weather unless our trail access becomes impassable. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with our cancellation policy prior to purchasing your yurt dinner tickets.
-
Yes! Each current season pass purchase includes $35 off a Yurt Dinner reservation. Check your season pass confirmation email for a discount code when reserving your dinner. Discounts must be applied at time of purchase and will not be applied retroactively.
-
While there is no running water at the yurt, we provide two portable restrooms which are cleaned weekly.

The yurt is also available to rent for private parties and events between December and March. To book the yurt for a private event, email our Nordic Center & Yurt Manager at amanda@cbnordic.org.
The yurt is owned and managed by CB Nordic and sits on Crested Butte Land Trust property. We are grateful to the Land Trust for allowing us to host outings in such a beautiful setting. The yurt is only open in the winter. It can comfortably seat 40 people and accommodate more if sitting is not a priority. It is heated by a wood stove and lit by solar-powered lights. It has a deck, an outhouse, and a basic kitchen. It is open seven days a week as a warming hut, though it is not heated outside of special events.
