New Snow and a New CB Olympian! If these past two weeks were anything for you like they were for us, then you’ve been enjoying the new snow and glued to the Olympics. With a winter like this one, you have to take every chance at skiing that you can get. And you have to celebrate all the positive things that come your way like: A Gothic Mountain Tour that, against all odds, was able to race a normal course. 30” of snow at CBMR out of the most recent storm. A snowpack that’s finally gotten deep enough to expand our trail network on the East Side. And of course, our newest CB Olympian Cam Smith and his absolutely amazing performance with teammate Anna Gibson in the Mixed Relay on Saturday. What an exciting event to watch! We’re so proud to see Cam and Anna take a 4th-place finish against an incredibly stacked field of athletes.
In other exciting news, the Kilometer Krush has brought out the best of friendly competition here in Crested Butte. It may not be the Olympics, but it’s not too late to submit your kilometers and compete for glory. Check out the current leaderboard. See you on the trails.

Trail UpdateNew East Side Trails OpenThe storms over the past two weeks have done wonders for our trail system and the valley snowpack as a whole. While the avalanche danger has led to closures on the West Side and on The Ditch trail near the Nordic Center, it’s also enabled us to open The Maze, Tony’s, Old Ditch Trail, and Skyland Golf Course. During the storm, we closed Paradise Park, Mike’s Mile, Pooch’s Paradise along Peanut Lake, and The Ditch Trail. Per the CB Avalanche Center’s advice, we will be keeping Mike’s Mile closed through this week’s weather event unless Climax Chutes avalanches naturally. As always, you can see the latest report at cbnordic.org/trails

Comp Team Headed to Junior NationalsThree Athletes Headed to Cable, WIAfter a successful season of racing in Junior National Qualifiers in Colorado and Utah, three of CB Nordic’s Competitive Team athletes will be headed to Cable, WI to compete in Junior Nationals! On March 5, Tazzy Pozner, Micah Hansen, and Sophia Bender will be flying from Gunnison to Cable, WI to compete with top Junior skiers from across the country in the final races of the season. This accomplishment is hard-won, and competition is fierce to win a spot. Tazzy secured her spot with an overall win in the Skate Sprint at the Aspen JNQ this past weekend, and Micah and Sophia have consistently placed in the top ten all season to secure their spots on the JN's team. A fourth Comp Team athlete, Robert Spencer, is also the first alternate for the JN’s team if a spot becomes available. It's been a strong season for the team as a whole, and we're looking forward to cheering on Tazzy, Micah, and Sophia at JN's!

GT Volunteers NeededMarch 27-29What does it take to get 500 skiers from Crested Butte to Aspen? Multiple pairs of skins, yes. But also multiple pairs of volunteers. We need your help to make this iconic race a reality. Currently, we’re on the hunt for folks willing to help with set up at CBMR, check in, gear check, bib and beacon check, and finish line support. Most of these jobs are Crested Butte-based, but if you have friends in the Roaring Fork Valley who love to volunteer, please pass this along.

The Grand TraverseMade Possible by Vail Resorts Epic Promise FoundationSpeaking of things that get 500 skiers from Crested Butte to Aspen - Vail Resorts’ Epic Promise Foundation is a vital piece of that puzzle. With their support, and the support of Crested Butte Mountain Resort, we’re able to host one of the most iconic backcountry ski races in the world. From uphill training laps, to pre-race logistics and meals, to the midnight start, Vail Resorts and Crested Butte Mountain Resort are an invaluable partner.
