State of Nordic Operations
From Bridges to Groomers.
A note from Kevin Krill, CB Nordic’s Operations Manager. With an early season tease of snow in October, we’re high and dry as November rolls in. But fear not - Ullr will grace us with their presence soon. When they do, we’ll be chomping at the bit! All of our groomers are returning and fired up to get out there. The first several Volunteer Bridge Days were a big success, and we have two more to go. Our snowmobiles and drag groomers are all tuned up and ready to pull some corduroy and set classic tracks at Lily Lake. As we approach Thanksgiving, we’ll pack out the snow and groom as soon as there’s at least a foot on the ground and daytime temperatures have cooled off considerably. Until then, enjoy the early snow and warm days. Mowing operations have also started on Ruthie’s Run. The Stadium and lower trails will be ready for the first snowfall. Fingers crossed that we can be skiing in town by Thanksgiving Camp - it usually takes a storm or two before we can keep equipment off the ground. CB Nordic is receiving a new Pisten Bully 100 this fall! It’s the same model as our 2019 and 2022 cats but will feature a steering “yoke” instead of individual “sticks”. For those that don’t operate snowcats for a living, think F1 vs. Farm Tractor.

Last Call for Bridge Volunteers
Bridging the Gap to Winter.
We’ve got two more bridges to install, and we need your help. Join us on Thursday, November 6 or Friday, November 7. For both days, we’ll meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Nordic Center and wrap up around 1 p.m. for lunch. Come prepared with waders or tall waterproof boots, gloves, and layers you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a water bottle and snacks. It’s tough work but think of it as the ultimate dryland training.

Don’t forget to come by the Crested Butte Snowsports Foundation’s Annual Ski Swap, this Friday and Saturday. We will have a selection of nordic skis, boots, and snowshoes for sale. Shop for gear Friday, November 7 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. or join on Saturday, November 8 from 9 a.m. - noon at the Lodge at Mountaineer Square in Mt. Crested Butte. Here’s the full schedule for drop-off locations and times in both Gunnison and Crested Butte.

Don’t forget to register!

Nothing says the season has started like the sound of kids gathering in the training area after school. Our Competitive and Race Prep Teams kicked off the season this week. Smiles, movement, and plenty of early-season energy! You can still register your child for Junior Programs. Register soon to secure your preferred days. We are still looking to fill some coaching roles for our after-school Junior Programs. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact Eleanor Skinner, Junior Program Coordinator & Head Race Prep Team Coach at eleanor@cbnordic.org. Of course, you too can be a part of the early season buzz in the training area. The December Masters Community registration, including Performance and Performance Lite, is open now through Friday, November 28. Being a part of the CB Nordic Masters Community doesn’t mean that you’ve “mastered” nordic skiing. Masters classes are for adult skiers, from beginners to experts, who want to learn to ski better and have more fun.
