With the forecast this week, and the first views of snow up high, Nordic Center staff have all been fielding texts and calls regarding conditions, grooming, and plans for the season. We want to keep you in the loop too, so here are the most common ones and our answers: Q: When are you going to start grooming? A: As soon as we have enough snow to do so. We’re excited to ski it too, and we’ll let you know as soon as we do. At Lily Lake, we look for 18” to begin grooming. Town grooming will start when the Nordic Center opens on November 14 at the earliest. As a reminder, our trails are closed to all uses until grooming starts because of the easements through private and conserved land. Q: How much snow is coming this week? A: As of Wednesday morning, OpenSnow says 11” of snow at Lily Lake by the end of the month, and 2” in town. Q: Can I ski at Lily Lake before you groom? A: Absolutely! It’s public land, and if you feel like there’s enough snow to ski then have at it. We wait for 18” so we don’t damage our grooming equipment or drag mud into the snow. Please remember to park courteously, with forethought for the people coming behind you and Irwin residents, and not on Kebler Pass Rd. Q: Can I rent skis to go up to Lily Lake if there is skiing up there? A: CB Nordic won’t rent skis until we are open on November 14 at the earliest. We may delay ski rentals if Lily Lake is the only place to ski and coverage is thin to preserve our rental fleet. Q: Have you groomed the access road up to Lily Lake, removed all the rocks, and manicured it like a golf course? A: No.
